Welcome

On behalf of the National Organizing Committee (NOC) of HPT TCP, I warmly welcome you to participate in the 15th IEA Heat Pump Conference, to be held in the historical city of Vienna, 26-29 May 2026.  The Austrian conference team looks forward to hosting the conference, with the motto, “Decarbonisation through innovation”.

This event is Europe’s premier event where industry and researchers go to discuss the latest advancements in the field of heat pumps. The National Organizing Committee (NOC) is working hard to plan and organise an exciting conference program, including a technical program, workshops, technical tours and social activities. The NOC greatly appreciates the assistance provided by the International Organizing Committee (IOC) and Heat Pump Centre, the programme office of HPT TCP.

We highly encourage researchers, policy makers, representatives from utilities and the public sector, manufacturers, and designers to present their most recent and novel developments in heat pumping technologies.

The conference in Vienna will be the 15th in a series of triennial conferences and the second on in Austria. After 42 years we are happy to host the conference again.

Previous conferences were held in Graz, Austria (1984), Orlando, USA (1987), Tokyo, Japan (1990), Maastricht, the Netherlands (1993), Toronto, Canada (1996), Berlin, Germany (1999), Beijing, China (2002), Las Vegas, USA (2005), Zurich, Switzerland (2008), Tokyo, Japan (2011), Montreal, Canada (2014), Rotterdam, the Netherlands (2017), Jeju, Korea (2021) and Chicago, USA (2023).

We look forward to seeing you in Vienna!

About the 15th IEA Heat Pump Conference

The 15th Heat Pump Conference will be held under the motto "Decarbonisation through innovation". At a time when the urgency of climate change is becoming ever more apparent, it is crucial to develop and implement innovative approaches to decarbonise the energy demand of our industries and society. This conference serves as a platform for the exchange of ideas, research findings and best practices to collectively tackle the challenge of decarbonisation.

The conference brings together leading experts, researchers, engineers, industry partners and decision makers from around the world to discuss the latest innovations in heat pumping technologies. Heat pumps play a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by providing efficient, renewable and sustainable heating and cooling solutions. Those solutions are essential to meeting basic needs for comfortable, secure, and environmentally friendly building environments, food processing, transport and storage, and industrial processes. Many analysts estimate that it will not be possible to achieve long-term climate, security, and energy goals without increasing the use of renewable heating and cooling hand in hand with large-scale refurbishment and renovation of the world’s existing buildings and industrial infrastructure. Through innovative approaches and technologies, we can further increase efficiency and pave the way for a low-carbon future.

The 15th Heat Pump Conference will be held in Vienna, Austria, from 26 to 29 May 2026 and offers a variety of formats, including lectures, workshops, technical visits, panel discussions and poster presentations to promote an interactive and informative exchange.

We invite you to actively participate, share your expertise and benefit from the insights of others. Together we can develop solutions that not only contribute to decarbonisation, but are also economically viable and socially just.

Conference goals

The goal of the conference is to serve as a forum to discuss the latest heat pumping technologies and applications and to exchange knowledge in research, market, policy, and standards information on related technologies. The program will include different sessions on topics related to science, innovation and applications targeting stakeholders from academia, industry, market, policy and investors. Exhibitions will be held at the conference to share products and technologies.

Conference program highlights

The conference starts with a series of workshops on May 26 highlighting the work performed within the international collaborative projects (annexes) within the IEA HPT TCP and other related topics.

Thereafter the main conference program will begin on May 27 with an opening plenary session.

Highlights of the program include:

  • High-level invited speakers for the opening plenary sessions
  • High-level keynote speakers leading each major conference oral technical session
  • Poster presentation sessions and oral technical sessions
  • Exhibition of equipment and information booths
