Explore Vienna Beyond the Conference
Vienna combines imperial landmarks, vibrant cultural life, green spaces and a strong culinary tradition. Its variety from historic palaces to modern art, from quiet vineyards to lively markets makes the city easy to enjoy in many different ways.
History You Can Walk Through
Vienna’s past is not hidden in museums alone – it is present in the streets and buildings you walk by. The Hofburg, once the residence of the Habsburgs and today the venue of our conference, stands right in the historic centre. Just a short walk away, St. Stephen’s Cathedral rises above the old town, while narrow lanes and grand squares reflect centuries of urban life. Beyond the centre, Schönbrunn Palace shows the splendour of baroque court culture, and the Belvedere combines elegant architecture with Austrian masterpieces such as Klimt’s The Kiss.
Culture That Inspires
Vienna is marked by a cultural richness that spans centuries. The Kunsthistorisches Museum presents masterpieces from Bruegel to Vermeer, while the Albertina ranges from Dürer to Monet and Picasso. Contemporary perspectives can be explored in the MuseumsQuartier, one of Europe’s largest cultural districts. Music and theatre are equally central: the Vienna State Opera, the Musikverein and the Burgtheater stand for a tradition that continues to shape the city’s identity today.
Green Spaces All Around
Vienna makes it easy to step outside and find nature within the city. Right next to the conference venue, the Burggarten and Volksgarten offer calm spots surrounded by historic architecture. The Stadtpark provides another green pause in the centre, while the Prater combines wide meadows with the famous Giant Ferris Wheel. Along the Danube, riverside paths and the Danube Island invite for walking, cycling or simply enjoying the outdoors — all only a short distance from the historic centre.
Culinary Delights
Indulge your taste buds in Vienna’s culinary scene. Enjoy a slice of Sachertorte at Café Sacher or a leisurely coffee in one of the city’s historic coffee houses, long a meeting place for writers and thinkers. In a traditional Heuriger wine tavern you can taste local wines alongside Wiener Schnitzel, Tafelspitz and other Austrian specialties.
Getting Around Vienna
Vienna is easy to reach and easy to explore. From the airport, the city centre can be reached in just 16 minutes by train. Once in the city, trams, buses and underground lines make it easy to move around quickly and comfortably. Whether travelling to the conference venue or exploring after the sessions, Vienna’s public transport system makes getting around simple and sustainable.
